"I cannot recommend this company enough. We had hail damage to windows, siding & gutters and fought insurance for almost a year. I contacted Big Red and within a week they stepped in and started working. They took over the insurance claim, the crew was polite, and they finished ahead of schedule. The work is amazing!"

Window Types

Common Window Styles & Options

The right window depends on how you want to use it — ventilation, view, ease of cleaning, or just matching the home’s style. Here are the styles we install most often:

Double-Hung

The classic American window. Both sashes open vertically for ventilation; both tilt in for cleaning from inside. Highest-value option for most home styles.

Casement

Open outward via a crank like a door. Excellent ventilation, the tightest seal when closed, and the cleanest modern look. Best in kitchens (over sinks) and contemporary homes.

Sliding

One sash slides horizontally past the other. Simple, easy to operate, low-profile. Common in basement-level rooms and wide openings.

Picture

Fixed (don’t open) for maximum glass and unobstructed views. Often paired with operable windows on either side. Most energy-efficient style because there’s no movable seal.

Bay & Bow

Project outward from the home, creating extra interior space and panoramic views. Significant impact on the home’s exterior look — choose carefully.

Awning

Hinged at the top, opens outward at the bottom. Common in basements and bathrooms. Allow ventilation even during light rain.

Warning Signs

When Windows Need Replacement

1
Condensation between the panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Once moisture is inside, it can’t be repaired — the glass unit needs replacement (sometimes the whole window).
2
Drafts you can feel. Stand next to the window on a windy day. If you feel air moving, the seals are gone. Drafts mean money walking out of the home year-round.
3
Difficult to open or close. Frame settling, swelling, or hardware failure. Sometimes repairable; often the cleaner solution is a new window.
4
Visible rot on wood frames. Soft, discolored, or crumbling wood means water has been getting in for a while. Repair is rarely cost-effective at this point.
5
Outside noise feels louder than it should. Modern double- or triple-pane windows reduce sound transmission significantly. If you can hear everything outside clearly, your windows are likely undersealed or single-pane.
6
High energy bills with no other explanation. Old windows can account for 25–30% of home heat loss. New efficient windows usually pay back within 7–10 years through energy savings alone.
7
Cold to the touch in winter, hot in summer. Touch the glass surface during extreme weather. Modern Low-E coatings should keep the glass close to room temperature. If it’s cold, the insulation is failing.
ROI & Energy Savings

Do Replacement Windows Pay for Themselves?

Honest answer: partially, and over time. Here’s how the math typically works for a Central Kentucky home:

A new window won’t pay you back in cash like a stock investment. It pays back in lower bills, more comfort, less HVAC strain, and a more sellable home. For most owners staying 5+ years, that math works.
